This booklet provides building clients with an introduction to Guidance on glazing at height (CIRIA C632), an authoritative guide to the safety and performance of such glazing. The guide has been developed to address concerns that current UK regulations, standards and codes of practice do not address all the issues relevant to the application of glass in a modern architectural context. Glazing at height is defined as glazing which has a potential to fall on breakage, causing safety and other related concerns. It includes: all types of glass façade in commercial or medium- to high-rise buildings glass roofs and canopies glass in barriers protecting against a fall from height. Guidance on glazing at height may also be referred to when considering other glass structures. Guidance on glazing at height is intended for use by all those responsible for or involved in assessing: the design of glazed buildings the selection of glass for use in buildings. It may also be referred to by those with less technical expertise, such as clients, who will require designers to follow its methodology. CIRIA recommends the publication to all those involved in detailed design, including: architects engineers specifiers contractors suppliers. Individuals involved in the cost planning of buildings need to be aware of the economic impact of safe glazing specification. This project was funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister through CIRIA, with additional support from the following organisations: BAA British Council of Shopping Centres London Underground Limited Rail Safety and Standards Board.
