Increasing needs in the field of transportation, for example: passengers, goods, fluids, energy, provide a new dimension to the discussion of underground infrastructures. Voluntary town planning, ground level reconquest, development of communications and environmental concerns provoke increasing interest in underground alternatives. The amounts invested makes it more necessary than ever to look for the best cost, to optimize technical solutions, to shorten construction times and to train competent specialists. These proceedings have four main themes: design of structures; preliminary investigations for the civil engineering project; construction methods, time and costs; and operation, maintenance and management of structures. |
