A major challenge in the UK is to ensure that the nation's stock of existing dams is properly managed to ensure both their safety and continued functionality. Recent improvements in the knowledge of factors influential in dam failure are presented, along with papers on remedial work for existing dams and how risk can be assessed and managed. There are several papers on the upgrade of spillways that were needed following risk analyses.
